Photos from a BiRtDdAy trip to Big Sur California last May…Shot on my Yashica and medium format Norita Graflex. Cell phone reception was pretty much non-existent and while some of us anticipated Instagram ‘likes’ in our dreams it was a magical experience out amongst the towering red woods, electric green plant-life and bondi blue waters. With no reservations we wandered up on the winding coast on a Friday morning of Memorial Day Weekend. After some camp-site drama, sold out signs and a hard time communicating between multiple cars with no cellphone reception we found an enormous campsite at Julia Pfeiffer State Park. Some highlights included intense winds at Pfeiffer State Beach, the lush & short hike up to Limekiln Falls, A skunk invasion of our flank steak which ended up making the worlds first Philadelphia inspired Big Sur Skunk Cheesesteak (I’m claiming it!) and campfire stories and multiple shoes falling victim to HOT HOT fires!
Big Sur sure is nice…
