Sketchbook
A week ago I returned from a 8 day skateboarding / camping road trip. Jumping in a van with a bunch of friends, skateboards, tents & beers and seeing the country is a wild experience; hardly a relaxing vacation. Too many stories, bruises, laughs & good times to count! I’m waiting on some film to get developed from the trip but until then here is a little doodle I did out in Indiana at my friend Brad’s family tree farm. There are some digital flicks on flickr too!
A couple doodles from a freezing cold night of skateboarding our favorite indoor facility in Philadelphia…Smacked my dome and my back so I decided it would be best to sit the rest of the night out…
It’s still a bit chilly but I think its safe to say Winter is on its way out…A tribute to those beautiful winter days past

I had a dream last night that I was sitting by the window of my apartment, clutching a giant sea-fishing rod. I was trying to reel in a monster fish from the sea, which was located just outside the opposite window of my apartment (which doesn’t exist). It was quite a battle. After struggling I finally muscled this giant catch into the window. It flew across the room. I grabbed the fishing line and held up the fish; Grabbed a knife and stabbed into it. I thought this giant fish was a monster. I leaned out the window I was sitting by, holding the fish far away from my face. From inside the fish dropped the skeleton of a lobster (keep in mind lobsters don’t really have skeletons but rather exoskeletons). Still thinking this fish was a monster, I asked Justin (who was standing by my side) what to do with the fish! He said calmly, “Just leave it outside the window on the ledge, we’ll cook it tomorrow. And don’t knock off the lobster skeleton!”. Just then realized I was just holding a giant fish. It posed no threat to my being. Immediately after I heard machine gun noises from the alley just below the window. I was startled and yelled! I leaned out the window and looked down. There sat a picnic table, not a soul in sight. Atop the table, a bunch of fireworks sat, triggering themselves. It was quite the show!
And all of a sudden it was 12:15pm. I was seconds from crawling out of bed at 10:00am. I’m kind of glad I went for the ride this time!
My first attempt at a Lobster Skeleton and some other doodles from today!

I’m thrilled to announce that I have decided to make a book. I am beginning brainstorming now, and I hope to work all summer and into the fall to compile and design a brilliant book filled with little doodles like these, beautiful photographs, a couple stories or essays, and some vibrant and inspiring design. I am going to self-publish the book and make it available online in an edition of 200. The working title is ‘Ideas, Memories, and Reminders’. I can’t wait to share it with you!
When I was young I used to draw a stick figure named ‘Fred’. Once I got my hands on a computer I started making animated gifs of Fred and his adventures. I lost all those animations when my old computer crashed…biggest bummer. Good news is that before computers and animated gifs there was the flip book. I have no idea how old I was when I made this but I’m guessing it was around 5th grade. I just found it in my attic…What a gem!
It has been too long since I’ve posted little clippings from my sketchbook so before I jump on a plane to Puerto Rico tomorrow here is a little dose of doodles! Enjoy!
I love sketchbooks – I use them for everything – Toilet paper, To-Do Lists, Sketching, Storing Important Papers, among other things…I wish I did more drawing in them and less to-do lists, but thats just how things are. I’m going to share a sketch every week with everyone on here…it’ll be fun! With this web 2.0 technology you can even comment and let me know if you like them or not – I promise, I won’t be offended if you love/hate them all.
I just bought some super cheap Gouache and this is my first time trying it!
