Hamburger Eyes!

You’re probably thinking “What the hell is Hamburger Eyes?” I thought the same thing when I first heard the name a couple of years back. In short Hamburger Eyes is a black & white zine out of San Francisco, CA. I’ve only seen a couple of issues in person but between my real life encounters and their entertaining blog I’d say Hamburger Eyes has been and continues to shake up the photography world. The short documentary below is a very nice glimpse of the world via Hamburger Eyes!

Library of Congress Flickr

The Library of Congress joined flickr this year and has been posting photos on the regular. The photographs are wonderful for their content, but also because they are public-domain & copyright-free. Every designers dream! I really should keep this as quiet as possible but I’m not selfish! I love seeing old establishments embrace technology & the world wide web2.0! Thank you Library of Congress. Hopefully your COMPLACENT GOVERNMENT counterparts take notice! PS. Library’s are on the come up! SO HIP!

I’m From Barcelona! No You’re Not!

Last Thursday I witnessed a show that easily jumps into my top 5 live performances list! For those of you not in the know, ‘I’m From Barcelona’, is an indie-pop group from Sweden with a lot of members. 29 to be exact!. They play music that is so happy it makes you want to cry good tears. Their performance in Philadelphia, at the First Unitarian Church, was packed with balloons, confetti, the cutest Swedish girls, and the most beaming, blissful, & jubilant crowd ever! Basically it was a HAPPY FEST in all capital letters! ‘I’m From Barcelona’ does not play very many live shows, especially in the US, so if you have the opportunity to witness euphoria make sure you pay the $14 for a ticket, slip on your dancing shoes, and show up ready to SMILE!

The Royal Portrait

Portrait photography has been around since the invention and popularization of the camera. It is a cheaper and often more accessible method than portrait painting, which had been used by distinguished figures before the popularity of the camera. - Wikipedia

Over time and after the invention of the polaroid (RIP…for the time being) portraits became more and more informal and much more common. Today they are one in a bajillion! However, due to some technological developments thanks to Motion Portrait I foresee a very big BANG for portrait “photography”. As soon as this technology is released to the public (My understanding is that right now it is available just for game developers) everyone is going to want their MOTION PORTRAIT! Motion Portrait automatically creates a 3D model instantly from one single picture. It enables Real-time rendering, and allows users to interact/animate characters with the movement of a mouse or touch of a button! Most impressive of all is Motion Portraits various natural facial expressions via their Expression Engine. MotionPortrait creates surprisingly natural facial expressions! Kind of creepy / Kind of cool - Check out the interactive example of this asian girl or watch this demo!

Miniature Tents!

Camping is always an adventure. The last time I went camping was with three fine friends of mine. It was a joyous alternative Spring Break! Nature walks, Firewood collecting, Lost car keys, Below freezing temperatures (whiskey), Grilling, and a STORM! All these memories were triggered when I walked past some miniature tent displays at Target this evening! I’ve seen these mini-tents before but I really was getting into them tonight. I wanted to take them all home and play! They also had mini sleeping bags!

Las Vegas! Uhhh?

I just got back from Vegas! I was out there for the Magic Fashion & Apparel Trade Show. Non-stop three days of looking, thinking, talking, walking, with some gambling, eating, and drinking on top. The last night of the trip didn’t end until I boarded a plane headed east. Special thanks to Shawn at the Playboy Club & GhostClub, Nick and the gang over at Obey, and Bill at Beandip Clothing for some good times…

Hawaii! Fun!

Hawaii was a blast! I’ve posted some photos (lots of them) from my trip…Some of the hikes we went on were insane and very far removed from civilization. However, I was quick to mention to my buddy Justin, while standing at the bottom of a 50 foot waterfall in the jungle, that Google has text messaging and we could find out where the closest pizza shop was if we really needed to…Uhhh?

VBS.tv and Fancy Basements!

A few weeks ago Lance Bangs came to Allston (Rat/Rock City) to film a segment for his show on VBS.tv - If you haven’t checked out Vice’s VBS.tv then get on it! They are doing some great things…In particular the Epicly Later’d show is SOLID, Vice Travel Guide is insane, and the girls in Shot by Kern…speechless - Below are some photos from Protokoll’s set the night VBS came to town

The Happening Photos!

I was in NYC this past weekend for The Happening Live. On Thursday there was a preview opening and then I hung around the city for the big event on Friday. I was super siked on the photography of Joe Curren, the artwork of my friend Julie Goldstein, as well as the Michael Leon print that I bought.
