Ideas

Ideas eh?

The past few days I’ve been crushing my brain for ideas and inspiration while working on the Jetty Winter 2008 Inspiration. While searching endlessly for images to match the vision in my head I came across two very cool things. The first is a website called FFFFOUND! Its still in Beta testing but it is a source of endless visual inspiration! You could spend hours upon hours clicking through amazing images. If you are a user you can mark which images you like best and then receive recommendations based on your taste and interests.

Speaking of inspiration, this is a fun little widget that The Directors Bureau created. You get some pretty funny randomly generated “ideas”. I’m not sure how relevant or helpful they would be but it does have the neat feature of customizing and adding to the words which it yanks from. It would however be fun to illustrate a lot of these three word monsters! Generate Ideas!

NYC and Much More…

Winter is creeping and I’m trying to figure out my next move and much more!

This past weekend was a wild one in NYC, with the premiere of The Best Laid Plans, a surf film I worked on. I believe a great time was had by all and lots of people came out…So thanks for that!

I spent a bunch of time on foot wandering around New York checking shit out…looking and browsing, doodling and sipping on coffee. I saw a bunch of Neckface tags around. His work clashes super hard with your typical tags and oddly enough has a thoughtful sensibility. Maybe?

I just was turned onto quarterlife. Its a web based show, pretty much based on the idea of growing up around the internet. Word is that NBC is buying it and it could be on TV next year. The show is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Its interested in how living a second life on the internet affects life. Something to ponder…

Wes Anderson

So I haven’t seen Wes Anderson’s latest film The Darjeeling Limited but I have to say that after every film he makes I’m more and more inspired. Everything from the writing, the acting, the character development, soundtracks, and the branding and identity of the films is on point.

Wes Anderson has a formula and sticks to it. As an artist it seems impossible to pick just one style or medium and keep it interesting but in Anderson’s case, his movie making never gets stale. I’m not saying he doesn’t switch things up or try new things but his movements are consistent. His attention to detail in the sets and the saturation of the film feels perfect. Each moving composition could be frozen and make a wonderful photograph. ‘I’m a fan’ and I’ll try and find a nearby theater playing The Darjeeling Limited as soon as possible.

The Darjeeling Limited soundtrack includes songs by The Kinks and The Rolling Stones but also features some beautiful Indian music. So good that at first listen I purchased some online at emusic.com. You can listen to the soundtrack on the official website so check it out and listen to the clip of Charulata by Satyajit Ray.

BONUS: Search ‘Hotel Chevalier’ on iTunes and you can download a free short film by Anderson.
